Former NFL Running Back Alex Collins Dies in Motorcycle Crash at 28
Former NFL running back Alex Collins, who played for three seasons with the Seattle Seahawks and two with the Baltimore Ravens, tragically passed away on Sunday night as a result of a motorcycle crash in Lauderdale Lakes, Florida.
Family Statement
“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Alex Collins this morning,” Collins’ family said in a statement released through the Seahawks.

The NFL, Ravens, and Seahawks also released statements mourning the loss of Collins. “The NFL family mourns the loss of Alex Collins and we extend our deepest condolences to his family, teammates, and loved ones,” read the league statement.
Details of Fatal Crash
According to a Broward County Sheriff’s Office report, Collins’ fatal crash occurred at approximately 10:20 p.m. ET on Sunday. The police report stated that Collins was traveling eastbound on a 2004 Suzuki GSX-R600K motorcycle when the driver of a Chevrolet Suburban SUV turned left to travel south on Northwest 33rd Ave. The motorcycle collided with the rear passenger side of the SUV, causing Collins to come to rest inside the SUV. Collins was pronounced dead on the scene. The circumstances of the crash are under investigation.
Alex Collins Accomplishments
Collins was a fifth-round selection of the Seahawks out of Arkansas in the 2016 NFL Draft. He produced 483 carries for 1,997 yards and 18 touchdowns in five seasons while also totaling 467 yards receiving in 50 career games (29 starts). Known for his post-touchdown Irish dance celebrations, Collins was set to turn 29 on Aug. 28.

“Alex’s infectious smile and classic river dance skills will forever be missed,” Schneider said in a statement. “Alex would light up a room and was beloved by our entire building. He enjoyed life and attacked it on the football field.”
Collins’ Career Highlights
Collins had a remarkable career, beginning and ending his playing days with the Seahawks (2016, 2020-2021). However, his best season was with the Ravens.
In 2017, he led the Baltimore rushing attack, running for a career-best 973 yards and six touchdowns.
Collins’ Recent Endeavors
In addition to his NFL career, Collins also played with the Memphis Showboats of the USFL this past spring. However, his campaign came to an end in May when he was placed on injured reserve.
